------------------------------------
Full Name: Thomas Caden Baker
Position applying for: Teacher
Teaching Position Preference:
Date of birth: July 7th, 1970
Origin/Ethnicity: England, UK.
Blood Status: Half-blood.
Wand: Elm and Griffin Feather. 10"
Special traits/abilities: None.
Patronus: Common Crane.
Personality:
Compassionate, intelligent, with a ready wit and keen mind; once a Ravenclaw, always a Ravenclaw. Bitterness of his past runs deep within him, pushed beneath the surface of his conscience after years of practice.
Appearance:
Tall, his height hovering at 6'2", and average in build. He looks younger than his 42 years, but not so young that he would be mistaken for a man a full decade or two his junior. Quite good-looking despite the years on him. His hair is a light brown in color, slightly graying, with light blue-green eyes.
Background history:
Thomas Baker on an otherwise ordinary day, July 7th, 1970, to two young lovers who underwent the briefest of courtships. While the Muggle world was going through great transition and strife, so too was the wizarding world, with the stratospheric wizard whose crimes would be so heinous and so widespread that the magical world at large would one day fear even his name. Lord Voldemort.
James Baker was a young Muggle on vacation in London from his home in Norfolk. Fresh out of school, he fell for the pretty young woman he met at a rather unsavory looking pub. Unbeknownst to him, the young woman who he would become involved with was a witch by the name of Cecily Binx. Their brief romance led to the birth of a son, and as were the times, the two wed in order to care for him. As Thomas grew and his magical nature became apparent, Cecily broke the news of her birthright to her husband. Stunned by the revelation, James Baker walked out on his wife and young son. She would not hear from him for several years until the fateful day his body was delivered to her doorstep with the dark mark blazing overhead amidst a canopy of stars.
It was late summer of 1976 when 6 year old Thomas would be thrust headlong into the world of his mother. If his father's death affected the boy, he would not mention it growing up, though it surely weighed upon some aspect of his subconscious. Like all british-born students with magical ability, Thomas received his invitation to Hogwarts on his 11th birthday - July 7th, 1981. After only a month of enrollment at the school, where he had been sorted into Ravenclaw, a moment that would go down in history rocked the wizarding world to its core.
The boy who lived.
The apparent defeat of Lord Voldemort at the hands of a child and the lifting of the veil of oppression and fear that had long ruled the wizarding world, shone a new light on Thomas' experiences as a wizard. Finally able to move on from his father's brutal murder, which had filled him with reservations regarding all things magic, the son blossomed in school, performing near the top of his class. He would graduate with NEWT levels in 1987 and his professors all expected him to go places within the magical community.
Thomas, on the other hand, had other plans. Whether it was the deep and ingrained mistrust that had haunted him since James Baker's death, or some form of homesickness, the wizard integrated himself back into the Muggle world, becoming a Muggle professor. Though he enjoyed his job and the routine he fell into, Thomas did not ignore the magical world. He kept tabs on the goings on, especially at Hogwarts, via home delivery of The Daily Prophet. A sub-par delivery owl that arrived at odd hours did not provide helpful for his personal life, however, and his marriage to a coworker would last but two years before she left him for a more "stable" man.
The second rise of Voldemort, the rise and fall of Harry Potter, and the Battle of Hogwarts were gripping news for anyone connected to the magical world, and Baker was no different. After so many years of running from his past, he could ignore his heritage no longer. He would return to the fold in the mid 2000's and obtain his license to teach at Hogwarts.
