Like many dogs, he was born to an intact pregnant dog and dog of unknown breed lineage. German Shepherd, perhaps, with other breeds in his makeup left for interpretation. As is commonplace with mix-breeds that are born into low-income areas, he and his littermates found themselves in an animal shelter just shy of their year birthday. Adopted into a family that kept him as a yard-dog , his world would be forever changed nearly three years to the date after his adoption. Forced to move due to financial hardship, and possessing the naive and misguided belief that a dog could easily fend for themselves in the wild ("After all, dogs are descended from wolves, right?"), Indy was abandoned outside of Yellowstone Park. Ill-equipped to survive on his own, the dog was forced to learn how to survive by scavenging leftovers from kills made by larger predators in the Park.
